THE DISTANCE BETWEEN US: A Socially Distanced Photography and Film Project For Our Times
social distance EMOTIONAL CONNECTION
Life is about perseverance. No matter how many highlight reels we fill up with our greatest moments, more often than not, success depends not on how hard we can hit, but on how hard we can get hit without giving up. In 2020, the world has been rocked collectively by the onset of a global pandemic, the likes of which have rarely been seen in our history. Now, more than ever, we must put out a call to arms to summon our deepest reserves of strength, resilience, and fortitude.
In both the best of times and the worst of times, a dedication to our physical and mental health helps us to weather the storms that lie in our wake. With many gyms and workout facilities closed due to health concerns, athletes around the world have found themselves suddenly barred from their place of solace. But positivity is more than just a physical location. It's a frame of mind. So strivers, survivors, dreamers, and believers everywhere have been doing what they've always done when times get tough. They are finding a way.
In my ongoing photography project, The Distance Between Us, I am creating a photographic record of the athlete during this time of struggle. I am creating a time capsule of determination in the face of a world forced into transition by and unseeable enemy. We may not be able to control our circumstances. But we can control how we react to them. Here are just a few stories of how people are fighting back.
